Thank you Wilton’s Music Hall, you have become a new fave of mine! The first time I heard about this rather cool historic wedding venue (which incidentally was voted Best Historic Wedding Venue at the UK Wedding Awards, and is the world’s oldest surviving music hall don’t you know) was through a wedding photography post that a good friend of mine did, and I remember being completely transfixed by it. Actually I remember being super jealous that he shot at such a cool venue, but that’s besides the point! I just loved how dramatic it was, from the moody lighting, to having the ceremony on the stage in the Concert Hall, whilst being surrounded by this crumbling 19th Century paintwork. It left a lasting impression. So when Hannah and Nick, whom I met at Laura and Alan’s Anran wedding, asked if I would consider photographing their wedding at Wilton’s Music Hall in East London, I casually and nonchalantly said HELL YES!!
Prior to the day Nick gave me one rule though: I must wear coloured socks. There were to be sock police stationed within the premises to dish out multi-coloured garments for the feet in the event that anyone was non-compliant. It had to be me didn’t it! (I still have them pride of place in my sock cupboard, Nick!) There were also some other lovely moments that stick in the memory - from Hannah singing a little Jazz number with one of her friend’s prior to everyone going in for the wedding breakfast, and also the perfect introductory ice breaker - the ‘sit-down-if’ game - so simple, yet so effective.
Did I forget to mention the surprise brass band?!
So all in all a really fun filled day, and one I really enjoyed being a part of. Here are the Wilton’s Music Hall wedding highlights!
