Barbican Conservatory Weddings

If you’re planning your wedding at the Barbican Conservatory and are looking for a creative and unobtrusive London wedding photographer, you’ve come to the right place. Right in the heart of London, the Barbican Conservatory is one of the most unique and visually striking wedding venues in the city - a hidden tropical oasis surrounded by bold Brutalist architecture.

It’s a venue that feels like a complete escape. Step inside and you’re surrounded by lush greenery, towering glass ceilings and winding paths - a space that feels both contemporary and timeless, and one that creates an incredible atmosphere for your wedding day.

Why the Barbican Conservatory?

The Barbican Conservatory is truly one of London’s most extraordinary wedding venues. With over 1,800 species of tropical plants, it’s essentially an urban jungle - a place where nature and architecture collide in the most beautiful way.

What makes it so special is the contrast. Outside, you have the iconic concrete geometry of the Barbican Estate; inside, a lush, green, almost dreamlike environment filled with light, texture and life. It’s this contrast that makes it such a compelling place to get married - and such a fantastic space for photography.

The conservatory itself provides a stunning setting for your ceremony, surrounded by foliage and natural light, while the adjoining spaces offer room for dining and dancing later in the day. It’s a venue that feels modern, artistic and full of atmosphere, with very little needed in the way of styling - the space speaks for itself.

My Approach

My approach to wedding photography is all about capturing the day as it really happens - the genuine moments, the emotion, the atmosphere -without interrupting or staging anything.

The Barbican Conservatory is perfect for this kind of storytelling. There’s so much going on visually, yet the space allows moments to unfold naturally. I’ll move quietly through the day, documenting everything from the anticipation before the ceremony to the laughter during drinks and the energy of the dancefloor later on.

It’s about capturing not just how your wedding looked, but how it felt - the buzz of being surrounded by your favourite people in a space that’s unlike anywhere else in London.

A Wedding at the Barbican Conservatory

I’ve photographed a wedding at the Barbican Conservatory, and it really is one of those venues that stays with you. Built in the era when Brutalist architecture was at its peak, the Barbican Centre itself is incredibly photogenic, and offers some fantastic opportunities for portraits either before the ceremony or as the light begins to fade.

But the conservatory is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown. I’ve been photographing weddings for years, and it’s still one of the most unique spaces I’ve come across. Surrounded by tropical plants, winding paths and that incredible glass roof, it creates a setting that feels almost otherworldly.

One of my favourite parts of the day is taking a short wander through the Barbican itself for portraits. You don’t need long — just a few minutes to make the most of the striking architecture and soft, directional light bouncing off the concrete. The contrast between the lush greenery inside and the bold lines outside creates something really special in the final images.

Making the Barbican Conservatory Your Own

One of the best things about the Barbican Conservatory is how little you need to do to make it feel special. The plants, the light and the architecture already create a strong visual identity, so your wedding naturally feels unique without needing lots of added detail.

You might choose to lean into the tropical feel with colour and texture, or keep things simple and let the space speak for itself. Either way, it works beautifully. The venue also offers a seamless flow between ceremony, drinks and reception spaces, allowing the day to unfold in a relaxed and natural way.

And for couples portraits, you’ve got the best of both worlds - the softness and warmth of the conservatory, and the striking, architectural backdrop of the Barbican Estate just outside.
