When it comes to organising a wedding, many couples manage to tick the big items - such as the venue and wedding photographer - off pretty quickly, however there is one area that certainly needs addressing at some point – how are you going to get around? This is the question that many couples face when they’ve decided to have the ceremony and reception in different venues. I’ve been a London wedding photographer since 2010, and it’s safe to say I’ve seen my fair share of wedding transport options over the years. So I thought it would be quite handy to provide some wedding transport ideas that I’ve seen, and which I highly recommend.
The trusted routemaster has to be one of the best ways to transport a large number of guests from the ceremony to the venue, and is certainly one of the most popular wedding transport options available in London. For starters, what could be more iconic than a London bus?! Despite having ridden on so many over the years, it never fails to amuse me how much joy it brings guests (the adults as much as the children!) to take a ride on this bit of transport history. Further to that, it also makes the perfect backdrop for photos of your London wedding.
Everyone knows the easiest way to get around London is the tube. So why not travel the underground to get to your wedding? Not the most conventional wedding transport idea, but this does make for great photo opportunities, as shocked and delighted commuters share in the joy of the occasion.
A classic and timeless option for your wedding day transport could be a vintage car. If you can’t decide on a model, take inspiration from your venue - for example a Rolls Royce for a classically British location.

Or you could go even older, and travel in an antique car! Comfort is usually at a premium, but you’ll certainly turn plenty of heads with this unique wedding transport idea.

Perfect for a larger wedding party (most hold 8 to 10 passengers), stretch limos provide a little pizazz to the wedding day. Enjoy comfort and a glass or two of champagne as you travel to the venue with your bridal party in style, which makes for some great photo opportunities.
A horse and carriage is a timeless wedding transport idea, and a truly romantic way to arrive at your ceremony or reception. Expect people to stop and cheer as you make a slower paced, but no less dramatic, entrance to your wedding. The carriage also makes for a beautiful setting for photos with your other-half or bridal party.
The drivers know their way around London like the back of their hand, and they’re also rather roomy inside, a London taxi is a great way get yourself to the ceremony, and beyond. Plus, if you book early, you can request one with a white ribbon as well, for that extra bit of showmanship.
9. Steamboat
A wedding transport idea which is tonnes of fun for everyone involved is a steamboat down the Thames. There are some venues which have this as a feature of the day, such as the Monkey Island Estate in Bray, where it doubles up as a unusual and unique way to enjoy your wedding reception.
Cool and laidback, and one for the travellers out there, arriving in a VW Campervan certainly sets the scene for the kind of relaxed wedding you’re putting on. There’s enough space for all the Bridal party to arrive together as well.
Finally if all else fails, use a scooter! Just be prepared to travel in a hail storm…
My style is all about capturing beautiful, unscripted moments at weddings that are big or small. It’s something I’ve loved doing since I began my wedding photography business in 2010, and I get a tremendous buzz from creating distinctly unique imagery that is artistic and full of emotion.
