Where to begin with today’s wedding at Clapton Country Club, London. It’s one of those weddings where a lot of things spring to mind. The venue, the people, the atmosphere, the music - which were all a reflection of the two most important people there, Lucy and Rich.
So, let’s break it down, shall we.
The venue: So, if the truth be told, when Lucy’s wedding photography enquiry came in saying that their venue was at the Clapton Country Club, I actually envisaged some kind of posh, members only club, where patrons can only be granted entry by the wearing of a tie. In fact, it happens to be one of the coolest, warehouse style wedding venues in London; a combination of urban, exposed-brickwork, and plant-chic.
The morning began in the Loft Studio, a perfect space to get ready in, and a 30 second walk at best to the beautiful ceremony room, the Department of Life. Here’s where this little part of East London comes into its own - we’re talking original high wooden beamed eaves, tonnes of plants, distressed brickwork, and 160-year aged parquet flooring. Very quirky and very cool. Whilst Lucy and Rich decided to keep the wedding to the DoL and the main hall, there is also the option of the Opium Room, ‘a fusion of Edwardian Shanghai/Parisian’, which can work nicely as a separate cocktail/gin bar or chill out room.
The people: Northerners, I tell ya, they’re a lovely bunch. Having swapped my London base for Leeds a few years back, I can indeed testify that they’re a different breed up there. Incredibly warm and welcoming, it was one of those weddings where I had to remind myself to stay focused and not get too lost in conversation!
The atmosphere: Oh. My. Word. In a year when decibel levels have reached insane proportions, this really was taken to another level. I think you can hear the atmosphere through the photos!! Could be something to do with Rich and a number of guests being a part of the official England Supporters Travel Club perhaps…
The music: On point all day, this was definitely my kind of vibe, and I have Lucy to thank for Maribou State being on repeat since the wedding. And I’ve got to say when the DJ set got going, I would’ve given anything to have just been a guest for the rest of the evening. SO good.
The couple: Last but not least, a final word on Lucy and Rich. I love it when a couples personality really shines through on a wedding day, and from my small sample size, I could tell that they created a day that was very them. It was a joy to be a part of, and because of them I had the unenviable task of deciding which photos wouldn’t make the post. So, I present to you, a Clapton Country Club wedding…
