10 Unique Outdoor Wedding Venues London

London Outdoor Weddings

With the summers getting warmer, there has been a real clamour for outdoor wedding venues in London of late, which is a good thing seeing as London has a fair few to offer. As a London wedding photographer since 2010, I thought it would be helpful to compile a list of the most unique outdoor wedding venues that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing.

1. Observatory Garden in Greenwich Park

The Observatory Garden in Greenwich really should rebrand itself as the Secret Garden, as not many people know that it can be rented out as an outdoor wedding space. Kanli and Richard were Glastonbury veterans, and really wanted to create a festival vibe for their wedding, but particularly wanted it in London. They enquired with Royal Museums Greenwich about hiring this fairly large patch of land, and they agreed! It turned out to be a fantastic setting for their outdoor wedding. 2. The Queen’s House, Greenwich

Following on from the previous outdoor wedding venue, another one based in Greenwich is The Queen’s House, which has amazing views across Greenwich Park and of the Royal Observatory. The actual venue is a Grade II listed former Royal residence in Greenwich, so you can imagine the grandeur of the building. However what makes it standout is the fantastic location, with wedding guests being able to enjoy amazing views, whilst wedding couples are able to have their picture taken in stunning surroundings. 3. Ham Yard Hotel, Soho

The Ham Yard Hotel has many things going for it - such as a bowling alley, and a cinema room downstairs in the basement - but it’s the roof garden terrace on the very top floor that really gives it that extra bit of pizzazz. With comfy sofas, fantastic vistas, and complete exclusivity of the entire space, the roof garden terrace really is a perfect outdoor wedding space. Ham Yard Hotel Wedding Photographer

4. Dalston Roof Park

The Dalston Roof Park is a unique gem - but to have exclusive use of it, you might need to bring on the charm…that’s exactly what Kia and Dan did, as they managed to talk the owner of the Dalston Roof Park into hosting their outdoor reception. They then kitted it out with pompoms, make-your-own lego party-favour figures, a Jenga guest book, and a retro candy bar which I may or may not have spent a lot of time around…It just shows that by thinking outside the box, you can acquire a unique outdoor space for your wedding. 5. Barbican Conservatory

Whilst this isn’t technically outside, the Barbican Conservatory certainly gives the impression that it is. Quite simply, this is one of the most popular and unique wedding venues London has to offer, and offers such an outstanding back-drop for a wedding ceremony, that it just has to be included in the list. 6. The Orangery, Holland Park

You don’t need to go to Kew Gardens to have access to an outstanding Orangery and outdoor wedding space. Nestled in Holland Park, near the popular Kyoto Garden, the Orangery is licensed for wedding ceremonies, and has ample seating for up to 80 guests. There’s also a cordoned off area outside the Orangery for the wedding reception, and as an added bonus, guests are free to have a walk around the park and play spot the peacock. 7. Trinity Buoy Wharf

Trinity Buoy Wharf is one of my favourite wedding venues in London, and for good reason. Firstly, there aren’t many London wedding venues where you can pitch up in a boat! What a way to make an entrance, and once on land, you’re treated to the o2 Arena and London’s only working lighthouse as a stunning backdrop for the pictures. Trinity Buoy Wharf Wedding Photographer

8. Kew Gardens, Kew

Who wants to have a wedding reception in a rainforest? This was a first for me, and a real joy to photograph, as Gillian and Luke were married in the Nash Conservatory, before moving over to the Princess of Wales Conservatory for the reception. The guests absolutely loved it, one even spotted an iguana, and as an added bonus nobody got rained on. Kew Gardens Wedding Photographer

9. West Reservoir Centre

It’s amazing to be in the heart of the city, and yet feel so away from it all. That’s exactly the feeling you get when you rock up to the West Reservoir Centre, a brilliantly restored filter house that was built on the side of the reservoir in Stoke Newington. I absolutely adored all that natural light that filled the main Tower Room, and the sun managed to set in just the right place for the couple shots on the jetty away - a fantastic outdoor space and setting for your wedding. 10. Great Fosters, Surrey

So Great Fosters isn’t technically in London, but it’s just outside the M25 - close enough in my book. Originally built in the 1550s, it’s full of that old-world English charm, with beams, fireplaces and all the character you could want. The gardens are a bit of a dream too - 50 acres of beautifully kept grounds, perfect for wandering, quiet moments, or just giving your guests space to breathe. Great Fosters Wedding Photographer

11. Frederick’s

A new addition to the list is Frederick’s, a family run restaurant in the heart of Islington. It offers a secluded garden, which becomes a tranquil oasis amidst the city’s bustle - ideal for alfresco ceremonies or receptions. The garden’s greenery and ambiance create a beautiful backdrop for exchanging vows or enjoying cocktails, ensuring a memorable experience for couples seeking a unique outdoor wedding venue in London.
