Phoebe and Ross’ wedding at Sennowe Park, Norfolk was one that completely deceived me. For starters, not only did the wedding ceremony take place in the grand setting of a cathedral (more on that in a bit), but the reception was held at the resplendent Sennowe Park, a private estate that sometimes doubles up as a wedding venue. At this point, with beauty and elegance all around me, there was no hint of the carnage and chaos that was to come….
Now I’m wracking my brains here, but I’m pretty sure that I’ve never had the privilege of photographing a wedding inside a cathedral before. So it was an incredible experience to do so for Phoebe and Ross’ wedding ceremony, which took place at Norwich Cathedral. I have to say that for once I actually didn’t mind being restricted to the back, as it allowed me to frame the ceremony within the architectural brilliance of the place, and marvel at it all from afar.
Post ceremony, it was off to Sennowe Park, a beautiful stately home, where thankfully the torrential downpour that threatened to put a real dampener on the day, miraculously held off for the duration of the outdoor reception. Which was just as well, because it completely belted it down when we were inside the marquee for the rest of the wedding day (just a quick shout out to Softley Events, who not only managed the day superbly, but also created a stunning marquee setting).
Now, let’s talk carnage. In times like these there is always an instigator. From the wedding breakfast onwards I realised that Mark, the well-spoken Bridesman, was actually a bit of devil. In one fell swoop he turned the wedding up to 11, with a series of games that brought havoc to the room. From the mischievous glint in his eye I could see that was all part of the plan…But I have to admit, in a year of incredible moments, that might have been my favourite of the year! Fantastic fun to photograph, and the energy in the room reminded me why this job is one of a kind.
