It’s been quite a while since I shared a London wedding, and it didn’t take me long to decide that Steph and Matt’s East London warehouse wedding had kick to it all off again. One of the great joys of the job is seeing how different couples celebrate their big day, and as soon as we arrived at High Hill Taproom, I could tell Steph (and I’m sure Matt as well!) had put a lot of thought into ensuring the day was super relaxed and a lot of fun, and as a freelance events designer, I’m happy to report that she nailed her own brief. Cue plenty of retro pinball machines from the 1930s onwards, an accordion player, hook-a-duck, an assortment of craft beers fresh from the brewery, and even a surprise appearance from one of my old mates Max Bolland serving up all the delish street food.
There was also a surprise wardrobe malfunction that required the seamstress to race across London in 25 minutes to free Steph from a separated zip, in what was one of the, shall I say, tense moments I’ve experienced as a wedding photographer. I got flashbacks to that time the groom lost his tooth an hour before the ceremony...! But that’s what good documentary wedding photography is all about - providing an honest and truthful portrayal of the day, the highs and the (hopefully non-existent) lows, and everything in between.
