Alice and Quentin’s wedding took me to Rocky Face, about an hour outside Atlanta, and to the south of the US for the first time. It was one of those weekends that stays with you: full of energy from the start, with Alice and Quentin setting the tone throughout, and everything unfolding across the vast grounds of Alice’s family home.
The weekend began with the wedding rehearsal, and already the whole thing had a slightly surreal quality to it: cowboy hats, boots and belt buckles before most of the guests had even arrived. With Quentin’s family flying in from Belgium, and many other guests travelling from across Europe too, everyone seemed more than happy to commit to the theme. Later in the evening, Alice’s dad led a group singalong to Let It Be, which somehow managed to be both slightly chaotic and genuinely moving. By the time people were standing on chairs, swaying arm in arm and wiping away tears, it felt less like a pre-wedding event and more like the emotional centre of the whole weekend.
The wedding day itself had that same sense of momentum, but with even less interest in holding back! The ceremony beside the trees ended in a burst of confetti, and by the time everyone reached the dancefloor later that night, things had become gloriously unrestrained - and Alice and Quentin were at the centre of that from the beginning. They brought the energy, and the whole celebration rose around it.
All these months later, what has stayed with me most though is not really the scale of it, impressive as that was, but the feeling around it all. For all the planning, travel and moving parts, it never lost its warmth. It felt open, personal, and shaped by the people in it.
