Interabled Wedding at The Old Finsbury Town Hall

We’ll get into today’s wedding at The Old Finsbury Town Hall in a second, but first things first: Max and Candy are awesome.

There I said it.

In Max we have a guy who has shown the world that having a disability should have no bearing on what is humanly achievable. Not only is he an extremely successful investment analyst, but he was the first person with cerebral palsy to hike to Everest Base Camp on horseback, and in doing so raised a helluva lot of money for Riding For The Disabled - a charity which has helped Max immensely throughout his life. As a unit, they’re even stronger, and are super passionate about documenting their life together as an interabled couple through their well followed Insta account, Riding Everest, and in doing so proving that Dr Phil’s misjudged comment that 100 out of 100 interabled relationships are doomed to fail, is wide off the mark!

Now onto the wedding. Or should I say, weddings….

Before small weddings became the hip (and only viable) thing to do, Max and Candy invited a core group of family and friends to Islington Town Hall to legally become husband and wife. It was a small, intimate affair, which made for a nice aperitif to what was to come later. Fast forward a few hours and we were all in The Old Finsbury Town Hall, a cool, rustic DIY kind of registry office in London, joined by a larger gathering of family and friends for the Jewish wedding. With it being a Saturday, we had to wait till sun down before we could have the Jewish ceremony, so we were in the unusual position of having the reception and Jewish dancing first (with music by the quite brilliant Shir)!

Having got our heart rate up, we had to settle ourselves down again for the Jewish ceremony, which was simply beautiful. I’ve been photographing weddings for a decade now, and this was one of those moments where I truly felt I was witnessing something very special and unique. From the crackling, highly-charged atmosphere in the room, I could tell everybody else felt the same.

A huge thanks to wedding planner extraordinaire Dita Rosted, for putting us in touch, and being amazing as per usual, and finally a big congrats to Max and Candy who celebrate their one year anniversary today! Big love to you guys.
