I honestly have no idea where to start with today’s festival wedding - and that doesn’t happen very often!
Let’s start with the enquiry, which came through wedding planner extraordinaire, Natasha Spencer:
“I have a lovely couple, Nigel and Jason, getting married this summer at their home in Goudhurst… They are having a fun and exciting wedding with a ceremony in the garden followed by drinks in their meadow, and a marquee fine dining meal with a cabaret performance before the evening kicks off.”
Even with that kind of foreshadowing, I didn’t truly appreciate just how much fun and excitement was in store.
The day began beautifully, with the ceremony in the garden under a canopy, before Jason and Nigel guided everyone with smoke grenades (or, more accurately, grenade following a grenade malfunction) to the drinks reception.
The wedding breakfast took place in a stunning marquee, and this is where the energy of the day really ramped up. Jason and Nigel ran in through a storm of confetti, and from that moment, the energy never stopped. At one point each table had a wedding cake delivered to it and the nominated cutter discovered their role by checking under their chair for a taped-on chef’s hat (yup, 16 cake-cutters…). Some were clearly more qualified than others for the task, and watching everyone attempt to slice and serve with varying degrees of success was pure comedy.
And then came La Voix. I genuinely don’t think I’ve laughed that much at a wedding before - she was sharp, brilliant, and the perfect fit for the day. Between her, the never-ending queue for the tarot reader, the fairground rides, the whole evening turned into something that felt more like a carnival than a wedding - which, given Nigel’s role at Carnival Films, couldn’t have been more fitting.
Everywhere I looked there was joy, laughter, and quite a bit of screaming as guests were flung around on the fairground rides. It was one of a kind - the kind of day I’d redo in a heartbeat.
A huge shoutout to Natasha and her team, who totally pulled it off, and also to Jason and Nigel - so easygoing, full of laughter, and up for every bit of fun thrown their way. Their friends were just as brilliant to photograph too. A perfect day!
