Since starting my wedding photography business back in 2010, I’ve always taken huge enjoyment in capturing spontaneous, natural, and relaxed moments - not just throughout the day, but in the portraits too. For years, I’ve encouraged couples to slip away around sunset for ten or fifteen minutes to make the most of that golden hour light. It’s not just because the light is often at its most beautiful then; it’s also because, by that point, couples are genuinely at ease.
The hugs, the kisses, and the speeches are done, a few drinks have been enjoyed, and the pressure of the day has lifted. It’s usually the first real moment they’ve had alone together - a quiet breather amid the whirlwind - and that’s when the magic happens. Those brief moments often lead to some of my favourite photographs: simple, intimate, and full of genuine connection. And if there’s no sunset, no bother - it’s always about that honest, unguarded chemistry between them. Here are a few of my favourites over the years.
