As a wedding photographer I’m privy to many private and intimate moments, which, considering I’m a relative stranger to all those involved, I find absolutely amazing and something I’m so proud to be a part of.
There is one moment though that took place earlier this year, which ranks among the most emotional and heartfelt I’ll probably ever photograph on a wedding day: The moment Louise sees her mum and sister for the first time in two and a half years.
From the time I arrived at the hotel, Louise was telling me how much she wished her mum and sister were able to fly from South Africa for her wedding day. I could tell how much it hurt her that they wouldn’t be there, but she understood there was no way round it, and it seemed that it was just an unfortunate set of circumstances.
What she didn’t know, and neither did I at that time, was that they had in fact found a way over, and were currently en route for an emotional reunion.
So, they arrived, the rest of the family got Louise into place - and then they both walked in.
