Cuba

Street Photography with the Nikon D750

March 2016

A few months ago me and the Myanmar boys had a chat. We wanted more adventures together, more banter, and some more street photography wouldn’t have gone amiss either! So we came up with a selection of places that excited us the most - Nepal and Tibet were leading contenders until a country famed for it’s cigars, rum and salsa came storming to the top of the list - it had to be Cuba.

As soon as that seed was planted nothing else came close, and in the days leading up to the big departure at the start of this month, excitement levels were sky high. We arrived in Havana buzzing. The 50s style cars, the crumbling decor of the buildings, and all the interesting characters that filled the streets - I could see why so many photographers are drawn to this country that’s still so steeped in its past.

We had two weeks to explore, and despite an impulsive pit stop to one of the all-inclusive beach resorts in Varadero for 3 days (it would have been rude not to!), it was pure street photography for the remaining time, which encompassed Santa Clara, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, as well as Havana.

Here’s a small selection from the trip:

Great job Kris, my two favourites are the jump (great shape!) and the bottle throwing down shot. Lovely to see Cuba through your eyes.

Wow, astonishing selection fella! That shot of the girls chatting and the dalmation sticking it’s head out is something else! And the girl running too, love that!!

Wow! I love these. My favourites pictures are definitely the ones in bright sunshine. I have just started enjoying shooting in strong contrast situations myself :)
